Donna’s Blog

*********************************************************************************************

Today was the day that Thurston came home.

Donna and I met when our baby boys were in the NICU at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center. We kept in touch over the following months and I knew I wanted to be there for her whenever Thurston came home. Summer, fall, and winter came and went. But on this beautiful March day, little T finally took the long glorious ride home to spend his first birthday surrounded by love in his own house.

To say that this family endured a roller coaster of emotions is a severe understatement. It has been a sporadically uplifting yet often devastating experience for them every second of every day for an entire year. (Read Donna’s poignant blog to read more about Thurston’s amazing journey) He is by far the strongest little guy I know, and continues to amaze us all with his will and power to move and touch those around him. It is one of Thurston’s astounding mysteries.

Donna has expressed great interest in supporting the Ronald McDonald House. It allows families of children who are hospitalized a close place to stay while their children undergo treatment. It gave her very valuable element that you can’t get back – more time with her son. RMHC supports families like hers in a very direct and immediate way.

This special family is without a doubt the reason why I feel compelled to do what I do. If these photos move you in some way, please leave a comment below for the family. For every comment posted through March 31, I will donate $1 to RMHC, up to $300.  (I was inspired by what Michele of Pinkle Toes Photography had done for me and family. Read about it here) The only way to give back is to pay it forward.

Happy birthday, little Thurston. Thank you for touching my life.
